FAQs

What about Covid?

We are confident that with the state of vaccinations across Europe and the low infection rate in Tübingen, we can hold the conference in a safe manner. We will comply with all the health measures imposed by the respective authorities. Specifically, we require the presentation of a negative quick or PCR test before you can attend the conference (even if you have been vaccinated or recovered for the disease in the last six months). If you have not been vaccinated or recovered, we will also require a test for every day you attend the conference. Surgical masks will be worn for all the indoor activities and we will implement contact tracing for all activities. For further info see the information for participants.

Who can participate?

All Ph.D. students advised by an ELLIS member (see https://ellis.eu/members ) can participate in EDS 2021. Others can still sign up in case there are free places left.

Is there a selection process?

This will depend on how many people register. We plan to host at most 100 people in the Symposium. In case the number of applicants exceeds 100 we will prioritize students that are early in their Ph.D., since they probably didn’t have the opportunity yet to attend a non-virtual academic event.

How much does it cost?

Participation, as well as the food during the time of the Symposium, is free. We expect travel expenses and accommodation to be covered by your institutions. Originally, we stated that we might be able to support participants financially for EDS. Unfortunately, due to strict  German academic laws, we are unable to provide this funding. We are very sorry for raising false hopes.
